This Month:
This month, we will spend a few weeks on force, motion, and energy, and then we will start our organisms and environments unit to learn about living things.
Our Scientist of the Month is George Washington Carver.
Home Connection(s):
- The lesson on light energy gives students an opportunity to explore with shadows; this can be a fun activity at home: who can produce the most complex image?
- Use vocabulary such as "in front of," "behind," "across," "zig-zag," "straight line," etc. with your student to reinforce changes in location and ways objects can move.
- Our investigation on magnets is always a hit, and students will be bringing home a souvenir when that day comes in Science Lab. You can use a simple refrigerator magnet to let students continue to play with their magnetic object from Lab.
Upcoming Events:
- StarLab, a traveling planetarium, is coming to Old Union the two weeks after Spring Break. On these days, students will enter the planetarium (set up in the Science Lab) with me, and explore stars, constellations, and star stories. On these days, please make sure your student wears socks. No-tie shoes are also preferable. You may also want to send your child with a light jacket, as students who sit by the fan might get chilly. I'm looking forward to our StarLab experience together!
