Science Lab has officially started at Old Union! This blog will give you more information about what we do during kindergarten science lab. If you'd like to receive these posts in your e-mail inbox, find the box on the right that looks like this:
Type your e-mail address into the box, and click "subscribe." You should get an e-mail almost immediately to confirm that you'd like all of the blog updates sent to your inbox. This is a great option for those of you that would like to read what's happening in the science lab but get so busy that you may forget to check the blog. :)
Beha vior:
Science lab will utilize both Class Dojo and the school-wide ticket system as a behavior incentive program. You should have received a Class Dojo parent code already; this will allow you to log in to your child's account to see his/her behavior in the lab. {This code is different than the music class code.} If you did not receive a parent code, please e-mail me! Click HERE to learn more about how Class Dojo is used in science lab.

This Month:
Kindergarteners kicked off the 2014-2015 school year with a fun science game to preview all the investigations we'll do this year. This month, we'll be focusing on what a scientist is and can do, how to be safe in the lab, tools scientists use, and hand washing/germs.
Home Connection(s):
- Talk about who can be a scientist. We're really focusing on understanding that everyone can be a scientist -- scientists aren't just men in white lab coats! Science is everywhere, so scientists can be anyone! On that note, if you are a scientist or know of one, please feel free to send in a 4 x 6 picture with the name and science job title to be featured on the science lab bulletin board. I'm looking for community doctors, food scientists, botonists, zookeepers, engineers, etc.
- Let your child participate in preparing meals. This is a great time to talk about germs and why we should wash our hands before preparing food or eating. It's also an opportunity to let your child practice safety skills by wearing an apron, wafting unknown liquids, and being responsible with breakable equipment. Finally, you can discuss standard measurement such as teaspoons, tablespoons, and measuring cups/bowls/spoons, and non-standard measurement like "a pinch."
Upcoming Events:
- The submission deadline for the first annual Old Union Science Fair is on November 7. Please click HERE for more information.
